Something Stupid
by C. Carson Parks; changes by Debra Milligan

I know you stand in line
until I think I have the time
to spend an evening with you.
And if we go someplace to dance,
I know that there’s a chance
I won’t be leaving with you.
Afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
and have some tea for two
And then you go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like,

I love you.
You can see it in my eyes
That I despise the same old lines
I heard the night before
And though it’s just a line for you
To me, it’s true
And never felt so right before.
Please practice every day

to find some clever lines to say
to make the meaning come through,
Then wait until the evening gets late
and I’m alone with you.
The time is right,
My perfume fills your head
The stars get red
And, oh,
The night’s so blue.

So go ahead and spoil it all,
By saying something stupid
Like,
I love you.
The time is right,
My perfume fills your head
The stars get red
And, oh,
the night’s so blue.

I’ll go ahead and
spoil it all
by saying
something stupid
like,
I love you,
I love you,
I love you.
